Err, yes, they are the symbol for the World Wildlife Fund and basically considered an icon for endangered species. Sounds like the species might be shifting towards Vulnerable though, which is AWESOME, it's always good to see an animal become less endangered.

I tend to disagree with the general bias towards charismatic megafauna. I mean, gharials and coelacanths have as much right to be preserved as kakapos and pandas damn it!

I love you're art style and the whole board game concept. I just learned about the kakapo the other day (I'm from the US, they're not very well-known here), and i love those chubby green birds. I think your game'll do great.

That's cos you're biast towards charasmatic megafauna (the cute and fuzzy). I like the parrots myself. Still, I agree, it is a very nice maned wolf. Pity it won't make it through into my "special project".

It's a game!

i've been working in the games and toys dept now for about 3 years, so I've gotten an idea of a, what sells, and b, holes in the niche (ie: gaps I can fill) and well, there's only a handful of games dealing with animals - 2 of which are zoo based (Zooreeka and Zooretta) and one safari one (African animals = overdone) and Xeko which hasn't made it to NZ (TCG with "hotspot" locations, like Madagascar, Indonesia and Costa Rica). Mine does not involve zoos at all, but does involve endangered animals. But its a board game, not a TCG so hopefully won't interfere with Xeko too much.

In deciding what creatures to represent, I've had to tend towards the charasmatic megavertebrates because noone will buy - or play - a game where they've heard of none of the beasties, so cats are overrepresented. Dogs are underrepresented actually - as they're not so threatened as their feline compatriots. Probably 70% of the animals I've chosen to use are critically endangered or presumed extinct. It's sad.

I saw your gallery, with your original style and I am sure that your game will be a success - :) because your images of animals are so colourful and friendly.
Your game will propably draw attention to endangered animals, which is very important !
I hope I will have a chance to see your game when it is launched.

Or maybe just "vulnerable" - I've chosen some animals for interests sake ^^ No wait, it was "near threatened" (just checked). Hrm... maybe I should remove them for something more endangered, even though they're very nifty canids.
