The Taniwha by lemurkat The Taniwha by lemurkat
The Taniwha is a beast of Maori Mythology. It is a Guardian of deep ponds in rivers, dark caves and the ocean. Closely interlinked with the land, it punishes any who dare to break Tapu (taboos) and has been used to defend land from development. If one has interacted with a taniwha in their life, then it is possible that they shall become one after death. Likewise, some woman have been known to have relations with male taniwha and produce taniwha offspring.

Hello friend.  I love your art work on taniwha and your reflection about what a taniwha is.  Different iwi will have a different perspective on it but the concept is about community development as oppose to corporate development that reeks profit for oneself and not the community and the environment.  I'm looking at the philosophy and concept of taniwha also in the light of how we use media to benefit the community rather than mainstream or pop culture media.  I was thinking that the concept of taniwha is not just a mythical creature living in swamps it is also about a ethos of how we live and interact in todays world.  And in this sense what if the taniwha was a being a media outlet for the community.  A brooding creature that takes on modernity in social media and grassroots media in oppose to the exploitative mainstream media.  Anyway this is a thought I'm working to develop.  Do you mind if I use your art work to illustrate my thoughts on taniwha.  I'll link your art work here to my blog page and share it with you

That's a really nice drawing. I like the bold colours and the stylisation. I drew a taniwha earlier this year too so it's cool to see more of them.
Well done. :)
