Description

Fish Pokemon don't get enough attention. Further descriptions to come, but its late and I'm tired and cold and need my beauty sleep.

#226. Mantine the Kite Pokemon
Mantine glides elegantly through the water, snatching up prey in its large mouth and leaping across the waves. Sometimes a remoraid will hitch a ride on its wing.

#223. Remoraid the jet Pokemon.
Remoraid often hitches a ride with Mantine, using its dorsal fin to adhere to the larger Pokemon's fin. It snatches up any carrion left over from Mantine's hunting. It can shoot darts of water with deadly accuracy and often hunts in this manner.

#458. Mantyke the baby Kite Pokemon
Swims playfully through the water. It uses its two antennae to sense changes in underwater currents.

318. Carvanha the piranha Pokemon.
In groups, this is a savage and nasty-tempered Pokemon that will happily team up to destroy boats or take bites out of potential foes. When separated from its fellows, however, it turns timid.

211. Qwilfish the Puffer Pokemon
If threatened, Qwilfish can inflate into an enormous balloon and shoot out its spines. These are poisonous and one prick from them can be fatal. Not a tasty snack.

319. Sharpedo the Shark Pokemon.
Sharpedo is the "bully of the seas". It can swim up to 75 mph and its powerful jaws can puncture steel. This one is a mutant - it has a tail. Most Sharpedo end behind the fins and use jet-like blasts of water for propulsion. I'm just stupid. Or creative. You be the judge.

#340. Whiscash the Whiskers Pokemon
Whiscash are extremely territorial and will eat almost anything. If it is alive, it will eat it. If it is not, it will eat it. If anyone invades its territory it will scare them away by creating a mighty earth tremor. Normally found in freshwater, this one is clearly on vacation.

#170. Chinchou the lantern Pokemon
To scare away predators, Chinchou discharges positive and negative ions from its antennae. It lives at depths below the sun's rays and uses flashes of light to communicate with its fellows.

#369. Relicanth the Relic Pokemon
A relic of a bygone era, Relicanth went undiscovered for centuries and has not changed in appearance in 100 million years. It lives at immense depths, with its hard rock-like scales protecting it from the crushing pressures of the deep.

#367. Huntail the Deep Sea Pokemon
Huntail lives in the deep dark depths of the ocean, luring prey with lights along its sides. Its tail is shaped like a fish, to tempt in hungry pokevores, then it SNAPS them up in its mighty jaws.

#117. Seadra the Seadragon Pokemon
Seadra uses its spiny fins to swim backwards and holds itself in place with its prehensile tail when it sleeps. It is covered in poisonous barbs that are frequently used in herbal medicines, as are its bones and fins.

#91. Cloyster the Bivalve Pokemon
Cloyster's shell is exceptionally strong and almost impossible to break - even with a bomb. It launches its horns in quick volleys. If required to swim, it swallows water and jets it out its rear, propelling it forward.

#370. Luvdisc the Tropical Fish Pokemon
Luvdisc nest amongst corsola. In breeding season they gather in huge masses to spawn, turning the water pink. Commonly regarded as a symbol of love, it was once traditional to give a Luvdisc to your beloved. This practise has fallen into obscurity however, since Luvdisc are not exactly a good fighting Pokemon and next to useless outside of water.

#224. Octillery the multi-limbed jet pokemon
Using the suction caps on its long tantacles, Octillery grabs a hold of its prey before butting them into unconsciousness with its hard head. If threatened it can squirt ink.

#120. Staryu the Starfish Pokemon
Staryu are a strange, star-shaped Pokemon that is neither cute nor powerful and therefore unpopular with trainers. If an appendage is severed, it can grow another. IT is enigmatic and weird, and when darkness falls, Staryu float to the surface and communicate by flashing their red jewels. But who are they talking to? Each other? Aliens? No one knows, and tbh, noone really cares either. Poor Staryu.

Originally designed as 4 Art cards, this piece took about 7 hours to draw and colour in polychromos pencils. I have not yet had the heart to divide it into the four cards. It was my first real attempt at drawing light refracting through water.
